A rare Thai heirloom pumpkin with legendary disease resistance — and the vine-borer-proof moschata stems we build our catalog around.
Thai Kang Kob is one of the most disease resistant squash you can plant — and it's also one of the hardest to find in U.S. catalogs. It's a true working variety from Thailand, selected over generations in a climate where every possible cucurbit disease and pest shows up every year. Gardeners who've fought mildew, vine borer, and heat stress year after year end up loving this one because it just keeps producing when other varieties quit.
The fruit is flat and round with slightly bumpy green-to-tan skin and dense, sweet, deep orange flesh. It stores well, cooks beautifully, and has that rich moschata flavor that actually improves after a few weeks of cure time.
And because Thai Kang Kob is Cucurbita moschata, it brings the trait we center every listing on — vine borer resistance. The thick fibrous stems block SVB larvae from tunneling. In Kansas, where vine borer pressure peaks June through July and routinely wipes out pepo squash, moschata genetics are the difference between harvest and disaster. Vine borer resistance is kind of our thing at Autumn Prairie Pumpkins, and Thai Kang Kob is one of the toughest varieties on that list.

In the Kansas Garden
Full sun, well-draining soil, 8–12 feet of space per plant. Thai Kang Kob wants heat and doesn't mind humidity. Direct sow after soil hits 65°F or transplant 3–4 weeks before last frost. Mulch heavy, feed with compost, and rotate cucurbits yearly. This one rewards patience — cure it and the flavor gets better in month two.
