Christopher Snow — Stewart of the Land

Stewart of the Land · Newton, Kansas

Christopher Snow is the founder of Autumn Prairie Pumpkins, a family seed business in Newton, Kansas. He gardens with his wife, Maggie, with a particular interest in culinary pumpkins and Cucurbita moschata, the squash species that includes Seminole and Long Island Cheese.

His day job is in cybersecurity. In the garden, the work is hands-on: tending vines, watching the fruit mature and saving seed. Together, Christopher and Maggie share what they learn from a small Kansas garden with people planting their own.

Growing with the Kansas seasons

Heat, hail and squash vine borers help shape the choices in the Snow family's garden. In their podcast interviews, Christopher and Maggie describe growing vertically, supporting fruit and using blossom bags, hand pollination and labels when saving squash seed. These are practical methods from their garden, not promises of identical results in every growing season.

Seminole is one of the varieties documented in the garden. Our 2026 Kansas grow-out record includes original photographs and separately identified styled versions. The Seminole growing guide explains planting, space, care and harvest considerations.

Use the photographs and growing notes as a starting point, then plan around your own soil, weather and available space. A grow-out record is not a germination certificate or a guarantee for an individual packet; current product and lot information belong with the seed you buy.
