Jamaican Tropical Pumpkin is a true Caribbean landrace, selected over generations in a climate where heat, humidity, and pest pressure never let up. It's the pumpkin Jamaican home gardeners and market farmers actually grow, and it's almost nowhere to be found in U.S. seed catalogs.

The fruit is irregular and rustic in the best way, variable green-to-tan skins, blocky to round shapes, with dense deep orange flesh that's sweet, rich, and excellent for soups, curries, and traditional dishes. Flavor is what sets it apart: drier and more concentrated than any grocery-store pumpkin.

Like every variety we carry, it's Cucurbita moschata, which means vine borer resistance is built into the genetics. Thick fibrous stems block SVB larvae. In Kansas, where vine borer pressure peaks June through July, moschata is the only butternut-family squash you can count on. Vine borer resistance is kind of our thing at Autumn Prairie Pumpkins, and the Jamaican Tropical is one of the toughest on the shelf.

In the Kansas Garden

Full sun, well-draining soil, 8–12 feet of space. Direct sow after soil hits 65°F or transplant 3–4 weeks before last frost. This one loves Kansas heat and shrugs off humidity. Mulch heavy, rotate cucurbits yearly, and let the fruit fully cure for peak flavor.
