History & Origin
Baker's Branch is a selected butternut strain prized for its vigorous vines and outstanding storage quality. Unlike standard butternuts, this selection produces heavier yields of uniform fruits with thick, deep-orange flesh. Originally shared among growers in the Appalachian region, it has become a favorite of market farmers and homesteaders.
In the Kitchen
Peel and cube for roasting, soups, or gratins. The dense flesh holds its shape when cooked, making it excellent for curries and stews. Try it roasted with olive oil, maple syrup, and a pinch of cayenne for a simple side that steals the show.
