Block Party butternut squash seeds grow the butternut its breeders nicknamed "Miracle" in the trial plots: a Cucurbita moschata F1 hybrid bred as the highest-yielding butternut in its line, with a short, blocky fruit, a thick straight neck, a small seed cavity, and storage life that tested off the chart. Moschata stems give it built-in squash vine borer resistance, and it carries intermediate resistance to powdery mildew.
Block Party thrives in Kansas heat (Zone 6b) on a full-size vine. Direct sow after frost or start indoors about 3 weeks early. Roughly 100 days to maturity, fruit average 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 pounds, and they store for months.
The name is about the fruit shape, not the plant: give it standard butternut spacing. An F1 hybrid bred for yield and storage. Read our complete Block Party butternut growing guide for Zone 6b planting dates, spacing, harvest and curing.
