Thai Kang Kob carries good downy mildew resistance on top of the moschata stem, and it's also one of the hardest to find in U.S. catalogs. It is not a heavy yielder, so plant it for the flavour rather than for volume. It's a true working variety from Thailand, selected over generations in a climate where every possible cucurbit disease and pest shows up every year. Gardeners who've fought mildew, vine borer, and heat stress year after year end up loving this one because it just keeps producing when other varieties quit.

The fruit is flat and round with slightly bumpy green-to-tan skin and dense, sweet, deep orange flesh. It stores well, cooks beautifully, and has that rich moschata flavor that actually improves after a few weeks of cure time.

And because Thai Kang Kob is Cucurbita moschata, it brings the trait we center every listing on, vine borer resistance. The thick fibrous stems block SVB larvae from tunneling. In Kansas, where vine borer pressure peaks June through July and routinely wipes out pepo squash, moschata genetics are the difference between harvest and disaster. In a typical Newton, Kansas Zone 6b season the first fall frost arrives between October 10 and 20, so direct sow by about June 3 to finish with a two week cushion.
