Chieftain Butternut Squash Seeds, Mildew Tolerant

Free shipping on orders $25+ · Satisfaction guaranteed
Chieftain butternut squash seeds produce classic tan butternuts on powdery-mildew-tolerant vines, a Cucurbita moschata hybrid that also carries the squash vine borer resistance moschata is known for. Smooth, nutty flesh built for roasting and soup.
Well suited to Kansas heat and humidity (Zone 6b). Direct sow after frost or start indoors about 3 weeks early. Roughly 80 days to maturity, early for a butternut, with good storage life. Fruit runs a uniform 2 lbs on a compact, powdery-mildew-tolerant plant.
An F1 hybrid selected for powdery mildew tolerance and uniform fruit. The plant stays compact for a moschata, so it suits a smaller plot better than a full-size butternut vine does. See our growing guides to get started.

Growing Tips
Each seed packet includes detailed growing instructions. For additional help, visit our Growing Guides or reach out to us directly.
Seed life: 4 to 6 years stored cool, dry and dark. Germination is strongest in the first 2 to 3 years, so sow the freshest packet first and test older seed before you plan a bed around it.
