The Green-Striped Cushaw (Cucurbita argyrosperma) is a classic Southern heirloom with a distinctive crookneck shape and green-and-white striped skin. This vigorous variety has been grown in the American South for generations and is one of the most pest-resistant pumpkins available — squash vine borers leave it alone.
Fruits reach 10–20 lbs with sweet, fine-textured yellow flesh. Traditionally used for pies and butter in Appalachian and Southern cooking. The Cushaw is also excellent roasted, in soups, or as a butternut squash substitute.
Days to maturity: 100–115 days
Plant spacing: 8–10 feet between hills
Sun: Full sun
